Surrounded by nature

Tapada do Falcão is the main house on the estate, and the owners’ private residence. The house stands surrounded by cork oaks, pines and eucalyptus and their fragrance fills the air.

Outside the house is an extensive terrace shaded by a spectacular cork oak, with covered alcove and relaxed seating. A large teak table and chairs provides a perfect lunch stop. From there a large area of lawn and garden extend to the 14 metre pool, with wonderful views towards the hills of the Sao Mamede and the medieval village of Alegrete.

Next to the pool is a pool house with shower, WC and fridge (essential!) and wifi extends to the pool and its surrounds. There is a full sized trampoline nearby and a tennis court, shared with occupants of the cottage, a short walk away.

Just off the main terrace by the house, is a “secret” walled garden which contains the original terracotta bottom swimming pool surrounded by high walls laden with wisteria and bougainvillea in spring and summer, interspersed with lemon and orange trees.

There is a large table with seating for 12 under a covered pergola, with bar area and drinks fridge. A separate marble table and external lighting make this the perfect place for an evening barbecue.

Inside, the house offers spacious accommodation with 5 bedrooms and 5 bath/shower rooms (three ensuite). There is a well-appointed kitchen, large dining hall with seating for 10, sitting room with smart TV, well-equipped gym, laundry room and utility room with American fridge freezer. The sitting room, gym and four of the bedrooms are air conditioned.

A day in the life... Relax, Recharge, Repeat...

After an alfresco breakfast on the terrace, challenge your friends to an early game of tennis before the sun is too fierce, or stroll around the estate – if you’re lucky you will glimpse a mongoose scuttling through the bushes or a vulture or eagle circling overhead. Recover by taking in a few lengths of the 14 metre pool, then recline on a comfortable lounger in the shade or the sun – maybe with a glass of vinho verde or an ice cold beer to refresh you. As the temperature rises, relax in the shade of the magnificent cork oak that shades the main terrace, and revive with a delicious lunch washed down by local wine.

Then retreat with a book to one of the many peaceful nooks around the garden for a siesta and some down-time with only birdsong to keep you company. As the sun sets, reconvene for sundowners and perhaps a barbecue in the small pool secret garden.

Recharged, head out the following day to discover the many wonderful sights nearby… or simply repeat.
