Herdade Tapada do Falcão is situated in the Alto Alentejo,
one of the most beautiful and unspoilt areas of Portugal. The Serra
de São Mamede Natural Park, an excellent location for walking
and bird watching, is a few minutes drive from the house. The village
of Caia, on the outskirts of which the property is situated, lies
just 8 km south of the town of Portalegre, about 240 km east of
Lisbon and close to the Spanish border. The new Vasco de Gama bridge
across the River Tagus in Lisbon and very good roads make the drive
from Lisbon around two hours.
The Estate comprises two properties, which are available to rent
either seperately or as an single unit.
The main house, Tapada do Falcão, lies within 55 hectares (130 acres)
of woodland and pastureland abounding with cork oaks, holm oaks,
eucalyptus, olives and umbrella pines. Indigenous flowers and shrubs
flourish in their natural state and the landscape is punctuated
by numerous granite outcrops.
