Holidays > The Cottage
Casa do Outeiro is the original property on the 130 acre Tapada do Falcao Estate. It lies some 500 metres up a track off the drive to the main house, and is totally hidden from view. It makes an excellent base from which to explore the dramatic hilltop villages of Marvao and Castelo de Vide, visit the many roman and megalithic sites, walk in the Natural Park, or simply relax and enjoy the bird and insect life that will surround you. The rural views from its terrace across the vineyard to the rolling hills and valleys beyond are simply the best.
Inside, the cottage has been charmingly and sympathetically renovated and furnished with traditional hand painted furniture. The kitchen is simple but adequate with cooker and fridge. The living area has a vast Alentejan fireplace containing a wood burning stove, and a free supply of logs. There is a double bedroom and a twin bedroom which share a shower room. In addition there is a single bed located on a mezzanine floor over the dining area and reached by a sturdy, fixed ladder. It therefore lacks a certain amount of privacy and is not suitable for the elderly or the very young.
Although there is no pool at the property, there are a number of incredibly picturesque outdoor public pools a short drive away, as well as several dams and reservoirs where it is possible to swim. There is a tennis court on the estate which occupants share with guests at the main house.
Despite its peaceful and secluded position, it is possible to walk to Caia, the local village, in around 15 minutes
